Dru Bhattacharya, JD, MPH, LLM, EMBA is the Chief Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Officer at Banner Health. He previously led DE&I efforts at Advocate Aurora Health across Illinois and Wisconsin, where he spearheaded clinical and administrative partnerships in training, operations, and community partnerships. In a previous career as a researcher and faculty, he taught in programs of medicine, public health, law, and nursing. Dru has a background in clinical epidemiology, health law, population health, and diversity and inclusion. As COVID emerged, he developed a dashboard that tracked disparities across race, ethnicity, and geography; oversaw the establishment of 55 flu clinics through partnership with diverse women and minority-owned suppliers as part of the initial mitigation efforts; and co-led the system Patient Prioritization Team that established criteria to identify eligible populations for receipt of scarce COVID vaccines, and the set-up of community clinics to increase vaccine uptake. At Banner, he has created a new DE&I strategy and scope; developed 10 new homegrown trainings for healthcare professionals; established multiple community partnerships and business development opportunities; and has secured federal grants to advance health equity. He is currently completing his Master of Science in clinical services operations at Harvard Medical School.
